There are eight species of bear: American black bears, Andean bears, Asiatic black bears, brown bears, giant pandas, polar bears, sloth bears and sun bears and all will feature in the new book via images donated once again by many of the world’s best wildlife photographers. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation and Nature) lists six of the bears as Vulnerable or Endangered due to pressures ranging from climate change to human-wildlife conflict and even those bears of least concern, such as brown bears, are at risk of being lost for good in certain countries.

Remembering Wildlife founder Margot Raggett said: “For over two years, the impact of Covid-19 has affected the whole world and conservation projects have been particularly hard hit, both because many rely on tourist dollars to do their valuable work and the fact that donations from people or companies around the world have slowed down. This is why organisations such as Remembering Wildlife need to step up and plug the gaps. Our model means that 100{b7f689427f81e317b7f60b5a54fde01ab1a33ca18679f45a233af3a42b3f6e76} of all profits we make go to conservation, so anyone pledging to the Kickstarter will ultimately be giving to the wildlife we’re protecting and will play a valuable part in helping secure the future of bears around the world.”
Remembering Wildlife, the groundbreaking fundraising photo book series that has already raised more than £917,000 for conservation projects, has today launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to raise money to produce the seventh book in the collection and released 10 images from the book. If funded, Remembering Bears will be published in October 2022 with all profits going to projects working to ensure their future in the wild. The foreword for the book will be written by award-winning wildlife filmmaker, presenter and public speaker Gordon Buchanan MBE.
The book will feature stunning images donated by 85 of the world’s leading wildlife photographers, including Marsel van Oosten, Art Wolfe, Frans Lanting, Greg du Toit, and Daisy Gilardini. This year’s cover image was taken by Morten Jørgensen.
The Kickstarter campaign, which must raise the ‘bear’ minimum of £20,000 to ensure the book will be published, launches on Friday 1 April and runs until Sunday 1 May.
The Kickstarter page is at: Kickstarter Remembering Bears. Rewards available include a first edition copy of the book, limited-edition prints, bespoke jewellery items and safari experiences.
Margot Raggett
Margot Raggett is the founder and producer of the Remembering Wildlife series. After a successful career in PR in London, Margot moved into wildlife photography around 2010. Everything changed again when she saw a poached elephant in late 2014 and she determined to use her skill set to raise awareness of the poaching crisis and also to raise funds to fight it.
The series of books was created by British wildlife photographer Margot Raggett, who was moved to act after seeing a poached elephant in Kenya. With the six published books — Remembering Elephants, Remembering Rhinos, Remembering Great Apes, Remembering Lions, Remembering Cheetahs and Remembering African Wild Dogs – Margot set out each time to make the most beautiful book on a species ever seen, using images donated by many of the world’s top wildlife photographers. Over 33,000 copies have been sold worldwide so far.

With your support, Remembering Bears will be a beautiful coffee table book, full of images donated by many of the world’s top wildlife photographers and will be published on Monday 10th October 2022. This will hopefully be the seventh book in the Remembering Wildlife series which was created by British wildlife photographer Margot Raggett after she was moved to take action upon seeing a poached elephant in Kenya. We are seeking funding via Kickstarter to make the production of the book possible. For the first time, this year the book will be 160 pages long, an increase of 16 pages on previous books but the price will remain the same.
