The bazaar itself is a beautifully tiled cavernous labyrinth with high arched ceilings and rows of shops and small cafés that line every arcade. Once inside, the sheer number of colors that assail the ready-for-anything visitor knock you out. And then there are the spices. Compared to the tourist trap Grand Bazaar, most of the patrons on this night were locals in serious search of perhaps that one ingredient destined to transform an ordinary dish into one fit for a Sultan. Or maybe an exotic array of fragrant loukoums and halvahs to have on hand for unexpected drop-ins.
